Walter's Story

Walter was our 6 year old Red Ruffed Lemur Male who came to us from overcrowding in a zoo in North FL to be a companion for Eliza. The two had been together since their big introduction in 2017 and done so much for the Lemur species. Walter, being intact, got extremely aggressive and temperamental starting in early February each year for breeding season. Walter was hands off from this day until he started to lighten up in about June, otherwise Walter was an absolute Ham, unless you are a guy. Walter was an extremely sensual man and liked to close his eyes and kiss us while receiving snuggles. Walter is one of the most iconic parts of this organization, him and Eliza have truly been a blessing for their countless years of reproduction for this endangered species.

In 2022, we unfortunately and unexpectedly lost Walter to unknown genetic issues. Although our handsome boy was not able to be with us as long as we would have wished, Walter lived an incredible life beside his companion Eliza and his legacy in conservation continues through their many beautiful offspring. He will forever be remembered as a founding father to Wildlife Wonderland, missed and celebrated always.

Favorite food; any … I am scared of Tamarinds though.
